(Xinhua) — Brazil’s COVID-19 death toll amounted to 300,685 on Wednesday after 2,009 more people died of COVID-19 in the previous 24 hours, the Ministry of Health said.
The latest figure makes Brazil’s outbreak the second-deadliest in the world, only after the United States. Just one day before, the South American country saw a record daily count of 3,251 deaths.
According to the ministry, tests detected 89,992 new cases of COVID-19, the third-highest daily tally since the onset of the pandemic in the country.
