S.Korea’s voting kicks off for local elections, parliamentary by-elections

(Xinhua) — South Korea’s voting kicked off on Wednesday for local elections and parliamentary by-elections to elect mayors, governors and local council members as well as seven lawmakers.
The voting will continue for 12 hours from 6:00 a.m. local time at 14,465 polling stations nationwide, according to the National Election Commission.
Those infected with the COVID-19 will be allowed to cast ballots from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
At stake are 17 metropolitan mayors and provincial governors, 226 local council chiefs, 824 members in metropolitan and provincial councils, 2,927 members in local councils, and 17 superintendents of education as well as seven parliamentary seats.
The turnout of the early voting, held on Friday and Saturday, came to 20.62 percent, higher than any advance voting for local elections.
